How do I ______ in Basecamp 3?

Switching from Basecamp 2 to 3 can be a bit disorienting. If you've ever found yourself asking "how do I do that in the new version?", then this page is for you! Here are the topics we'll cover — feel free to click one to jump straight to it!

In Basecamp 2 the "Files" section included all the files from my entire account, even those posted as part of a comment, message, or to-do. How do I see all my files in one place in Basecamp 3?

In Basecamp 3 you can see all your images, PDFs, files, etc. in one place too!

  1. Click the Find link in the top navigation. Basecamp menu bar with 'Find...' option highlighted and search form expanded

  2. Then click the Search everything filter and select Files Find interface with a filter dropdown selecting Files option

  3. Bingo! Now you'll see all the images, PDFs, spreadsheets, etc. across all your Teams, Projects, and Pings. Find page search results

  4. Only want to see the files from a single Team or Project? Or just the ones you posted? No problem, just use the People or Project filters up top.

In Basecamp 2 I used the loop-in feature to share a message, to-do, etc. with someone that wasn't on Basecamp. In Basecamp 3, how do I share something with someone without giving them full access?

In Basecamp 3, sharing a message, to-do list, document, etc. is as easy as sharing a link. Here's how:

  1. Go to whatever you'd like to share and click the Share... button at the top of the page. Message page with arrow pointing to 'Share...' button

  2. Next you'll see a pop-up with 2 options, click Get a public link to share with anyone.... Message page with expanded share menu and arrow pointing to 'Get a public link' option

  3. Once you confirm that you want to generate a public link, you'll just need to copy the link displayed, and share it however you'd like. Share page

I loved how the calendar in Basecamp 2 let me see all the upcoming events across my projects in one place. In Basecamp 3, how do I see everything that's coming up on the schedule across all my Basecamps?

Basecamp 3 has several reports that are great for seeing things across all your Basecamps—including what's coming up on the schedule. Here's how to view the report:

  1. First, click the Reports link from the top navigation, that'll bring up a purple menu of all the reports. Basecamp 3 navigation with arrow pointing to Reports link

  2. Next, select the report you want to see, in this case it's the What's coming up or due soon? report. Reports menu with arrow pointing to 'What's coming up or due soon' option

  3. That's it! Now you can scroll through everything that's coming up! 'What's coming up or due soon' report

In Basecamp 2 I used to click on someone's avatar or name to get to their "Me" page. It'd have their open assignments, recent activity, and all the files they've posted. How do I see all that in Basecamp 3?

Those "Me" pages were handy! In Basecamp 3, it's a little different, and depending on what you're looking for you'll want to do one of a few things. Let's start with the reports:

  1. Start by clicking on the Reports link from the top navigation, it'll pop up a purple menu. Basecamp 3 navigation with arrow pointing to Reports link

  2. Both of the last two reports help you see info about a specific person on your Basecamp. Just pick the one you're looking for. Reports menu with arrows pointing to 'What's on someone's plate?' report and 'What has someone been up to?' report

If you want to see all the messages, or to-dos, or files that someone posted, you'll want to head over to the Find screen instead

  1. Click the "Find" link in the top navigation. Basecamp menu bar with 'Find...' option highlighted and search form expanded

  2. Select the person who's stuff you want to see, and any additional filters to narrow it down. Find page with arrow pointing to search filters

Great job, you reached the end of the guide! Have you read all of them?
