A “Company HQ” is a place for your whole company. Invite everyone to your HQ, and you’ll have a single reliable place to post company-wide announcements everyone should know about, chat socially around the Campfire, and post key documents like benefits packages, health insurance information, and other stuff everyone needs.
Setting up your Company HQ
If your HQ isn't already set up yet, click the Adminland link on the Home screen, and in Adminland
Set up what's shown on the Home screen and flip on the HQ option. (Note, you'll need to be an account owner or admin to do this.)
Then you'll have the option to start a new HQ from scratch, or reuse an existing project as your HQ.
Using Automatic Check-ins
The Company HQ comes with a few Automatic Check-ins turned on automatically:
- “What did you work on this week?” (every Monday morning)
- “What did you work on today?” (at the end of every day)
- “Read any good books lately?” (at the beginning of the month)
We recommend keeping these on — they'll help you keep up with everyone at your company.
Once your HQ is set up, you're ready to invite people from your company. Just hit the big "Invite" button at the top, and type in the names / emails of people who should have access to the HQ.
After you invite everyone, posting an introduction message helps to bring them up to speed on Basecamp.

Welcome to Basecamp - it's an online platform we're using to organize our team and projects. It's your one-stop hub for our work.
This initial space I’ve invited you to is our HQ. It's our place to post company-wide announcements everyone should know about, chat socially around the Campfire, and post files and other stuff everyone needs.
I’ll also create other teams and projects as we need. Think of teams as mini-HQs set up for a team. Projects are where our major project work will go.

- The Help Guides are great for diving more into how Basecamp works.
- The Intro to Basecamp class will walk you through setting up a project. The Basecamp team also offers weekly live Q&A classes.

Pro-Tips for Working in Basecamp
Take the time to set your notifications how you'd like them. The Work Can Wait tool is great for setting your working hours. Customizing your notifications now goes a long way to getting the right notifications in the way you work best.
Pick the right tools in projects you create. Some projects need every tool while others only need certain ones. You can pick your tools (and even rename them) like this. And for projects you're going to be doing a lot, a project template comes in handy.
Use Campfire chats at the right times. If it’s an important conversation, it shouldn’t happen in the chat room. Chat should be about quick, ephemeral things. Important topics that need time, traction, and separation are better posted as messages to the Message Board.
